Career Awareness
Career awareness is one area that school counselors focus on in their work with students. Each year the secondary counselors at GWA run a Career Awareness Week to get students thinking about the future and what careers they may be interested in pursuing after high school. Students are welcome to speak with the counselors about their career ideas and questions at any point throughout the year.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook
Run by the U.S. Department of Labor, this resource provides information about hundreds of different careers. Students can browse by occupational groups or search for specific careers. When looking at a career students can see descriptions of the kind of work that is done in this career, the salary that is typically earned, and the education that they need to achieve in order to get into this career.
O*NET
This online resource is another career exploration tool where students can search for occupations. Looking at a specific occupation will show the tasks, tools, technology, knowledge, skills, and abilities that play a role when working in this career field.
O*NET Interest Profiler
This assessment tool allows students to take a relatively quick survey regarding what they enjoy doing in life. The results of the survey take the student's interests and suggest career fields that may be a good match. Students can then explore these career fields in greater detail.
