Ms. Blackmer earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of South Florida and a graduate Certificate in College Counselling from UCLA.
Since 2006, Ms. Blackmer has worked as an educator in the United States, Armenia, and China, initially as a teacher of middle and high school English language arts and AP English Literature, eventually discovering a passion for and honing her skills in college and career counselling. Favourite activities include soapmaking, hiking, whitewater rafting, archery, axe-throwing, watching movies, baking, and keeping up with current events.

Magda Kozlowska is the Senior School Counsellor for students in Razi and Sina houses at GWA. She is originally from Krakow, Poland, but grew up in the United States. Her educational background is in Psychology, having obtained a Master’s Degree in Applied Psychology and a postgraduate certificate in Professional Coaching, as well as a Certificate in Counselling. She has taught Psychology and Theory of Knowledge in the Diploma Programme for 8 years, first in Poland, then at GEMS World Academy in Dubai from 2011 to 2016. She has also been working as an Examiner and Extended Essay Moderator alongside the IB in the area of Psychology since 2008.
In 2016 Magda moved to Bangkok, Thailand to work as the Secondary School Counsellor and Child Protection Coordinator at KIS International School. In her role she was responsible for the social and emotional wellbeing of students in grades 6-12, as well as ensuring child protection standards and practices are upheld within the school. She worked individually and collaboratively with students, parents, teachers and administrators to support the personal and academic needs and goals of students. Her passion for working with Diploma students led her to complete a two-year Postgraduate Certificate in College Counselling at UCLA and return to Dubai and GWA in this new role. As an educator Magda believes in the holistic development of students - on an academic and intellectual level, but also emotionally and socially - teaching young people to maintain balance equips them with the foundation that is necessary to succeed in any aspect of their life.
In her free time Magda loves scuba diving and generally being active. This includes interesting trips near and far, yoga, fitness and snowboarding.
